After completing his full-time service in the Army in 2019, Dr. Curtis set his sights on a new mission: opening his own practice in Watertown, NY. With a background in oral and maxillofacial surgery but little business experience, he faced the challenge of turning his vision into reality.
That’s when Dr. Curtis connected with the North Central SBDC. With their expert guidance, he navigated business documentation, secured vital financing, and laid the groundwork for what would become Upstate Oral Surgery & Dental Implants.
The practice opened its doors in the summer of 2019, starting as a one-surgeon operation. Nearly five years later, it has grown into a thriving practice with multiple surgeons and a dedicated team of 15 employees. The upcoming expansion into a larger office marks another milestone in a journey defined by perseverance, teamwork, and a commitment to patient care.
Reflecting on the role of the SBDC in his success, Dr. Curtis shares that the experience was “
nothing short of wonderful.” Their professionalism and expertise provided the strong foundation that has supported the practice’s growth and long-term vision.
